Hope and Change: Socially Responsible Investing and Financial Planning under the Obama Administration
January 20, 2009 7:30 pm -- 8:30 pm Newton Free Library 330 Homer St Newton Centre, MA 02459
This seminar is for people who are interested in learning about the social, environmental, and financial benefits of socially responsible investing (SRI). We will provide a brief history of the field of SRI and review current sustainable investing trends, opportunities and impacts, including how SRI has weathered and responded to the financial crisis. We also examine what the immediate future might hold (for example, how the Obama presidency might affect SRI). We will then relate this broad context to the individual or family who wants their investments to reflect their values, and how they might accomplish that within the framework of a financial plan. A financial plan is an integrated, comprehensive strategy to help control taxes, help reduce portfolio volatility, maximize potential returns, and potentially leave a legacy. Corporate responsibility, climate change and energy policy, and sub-prime lending are just three areas where social and environmental sustainability concerns are becoming compellingly relevant to all investors.
Questions and comments that are submitted in advance below will be given priority in the Q & A session at the end of the presentation. Please remember to hit the Submit button.
