This grant has generated interest and questions both about the grant and about Green Harbor Financial. Here, I address only the questions related to the Prize. If your question concerns the investment, planning and other services provided by Green Harbor Financial, please refer to the FAQ section, under the Services tab. If you have a question that is not answered in either section, please let me know.
Why are you offering this prize?
Because I believe anthropologists can have a lot to say to the community of individuals interested in sustainable investing. I would also like to encourage anthropologists to become more aware about, and possibly more engaged in, the field of sustainable investing.
Does the fieldwork have to be directly related to investing?
No, the fieldwork does not have to be directly related to investing, but it should touch on topics of interest to SRI investors, as specified in the announcement.
Can I apply if I am not a Ph.D. candidate?
No. This grant is for Ph.D. candidates who are going to do their main fieldwork. It is not intended for undergraduates, MA students, post-docs, or others who do not fit that description.
Can this grant be used for preliminary fieldwork?
No, it is not intended to be used for preliminary fieldwork.
Will you be offering this in other states in the future?
Probably. It is easy to become registered in additional states, but it does cost a nominal fee, which varies according to the state. I anticipate becoming registered in more states in the future, at which time I will be able to offer the grant in those states.
Can students from any anthropological subfield apply?
Absolutely, if their project fits within the parameters of the grant. If there is any question about whether a specific project might be eligible, please contact me. I did not intend to exclude anybody who might have students who could apply for this grant.
Thank you for your interest!
